South Africans mark 46th anniversary of Soweto youth uprising
PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA - JUNE 16: Hundreds of young South Africans demonstrated in Pretoria, the capital of the country on Thursday (June 16) on the 46th anniversary of the anti-apartheid uprising that took place in the city of Soweto in 1976, which killed hundreds of people.
The demonstrators carried banners demanding that the government find solutions to unemployment and take measures to prevent violence against women and children.
Soweto Uprising, a student revolt is now a public holiday named Youth Day.
According to the government, this year’s National Youth Day and Youth Month are under the theme “The Year of Charlotte Mannya Maxeke: Growing youth employment for an inclusive and transformed society.”
