LONDON, UK - SEP. 23: Hundreds of people on Saturday (Sep. 23) took part in a demonstration to criticize the recently announced plan to ban American XL Bully dog. Gathering at the Parliament Square in central London, XL Bully owners shouted "save our bullies," while decrying the government. "Don't bully our breed," "Blame the owner not breed," "Don't bully our bullies" were among the lots of signs, carried out by protesters. The mass later marched towards the towards the Prime Minister's Office, Downing Street, calling on Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to resign. Speaking to Anadolu, Joanne who is also an owner of an XL Bully dog, said that the decision to ban broke so many families' hearts. "They could have put regulations in place before just banning this dog," she noted. Saying that any dog can be dangerous, Joanne stating that measures that are taken against owners if the dogs are on wrong hands would have be better rather than banning of whole breed. "it's been very upsetting and so many people have been in absolute tears and heartache this week," she added. Following recent dangerous attacks, the British premier announced last week that the American XL Bully dog will be banned in the country by the end of the year. Citing one of the recent deadly incident Sunak said: "It’s clear this is not about a handful of badly trained dogs. It’s a pattern of behavior, and it cannot go on." They plan to ban the breed under the 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act which prohibits or restricts certain types of dogs and codifies the criminal offense of allowing a dog of any breed to be dangerously out of control. So far, four types of dogs – the pitbull terrier, Japanese tosa, dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro – are banned under the act.
