The conflict cannot be synonymous with death, it has to be of life, the conflict is the way in which humanity has been able to ascend, become civilization, culture. Dialogued conflict is what allows humanity to grow,” said Colombian President Gustavo Petro in his speech at the event. “This government can have a success with many of the recommendations that I will read, they can be practical and effective for the Colombian people, if we convert the spaces of truth into spaces of reconciliation,” he added. The commission is a body in charge of discovering and reveal past wrongdoing by a government, hoping to resolve conflicts left in the past. According to the president of the commission, Father Francisco de Roux, it is a document with "inconvenient truths" and a message to stop the conflict. “We are convinced that there is a future to build together, in the midst of our differences, we cannot accumulate lives, we cannot let the day of peace pass,” said Francisco de Roux during his speech. “We have listened to more than 30,000 victims, we have listened to Afro-Colombian and indigenous communities, in Colombia and in different countries, we have listened to all living former residents, such as Ernesto Samper, Cesar Gaviria, Andres Pastrana and Alvaro Uribe, as well as writers, artists, politicians, priests, we have met with the military forces,” he added.
