Host: How do you approach a scene? Is it automatic? Mineo: “With me it’s never really automatic / I find I get lost on stage a little and find that I’ve already done the scene / I don’t really know what training and study does for actors / I am an advocate of doing” “Just doing it” Host: What role most satisfying to you? Mineo: “ For stage the role I am playing now is the one I’ve wanted to do / For film it was playing Gene Krupa / I absolutely idolized him since I was a kid / I finally got to meet him — he gave me a set of drums / He taught me how to play the drums — talk about dreams come true.” Host: What character in history? Mineo: Napoleon! I am obsessed with him / As A kid I’d see pictures of him, now I collect paintings, books, sculpture — I mean anything that I can find” “Even brandy (laughs)” But I have an affinity with him, maybe I was his son in a previous lifetime” Can you direct yourself acting? “I have, but I don't like doing it. I think the performance suffers, and the direction suffers somewhat because it is so hard to be objective toward your own work."
