Speaker Ryan on Poverty Legislation, Cuba Policy, Religious Genocide by ISIS
House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin begins a weekly briefing telling reporters that he has made a mission of his Speakership reclaiming the American idea, and he is pleased that the Senate passed a bill to address poverty in America. He says that bill, offered in there by Senator Patty Murray of Washington State, will help move the needle, calling it a good first step. Ryan addresses a forthcoming trip by President Barack Obama two Cuba, saying that the Castro regime has been guilty of countless human rights abuses and provides safe harbor to terrorists but it is doubtful that the president will bring up the need for reform and will instead an ounce commercial arrangements which will strengthen that communist government. Ryan says the trade embargo on Cuba passed in 1959 remains intact and enforceable, and that an attempt to undermine it by executive action is unlawful. Ryan addresses a declaration of Secretary of State John Kerry that the Islamic State terrorist group is committing religious genocide, following on a resolution adopted by the house earlier that week. Ryan says that the government must do more to stop that genocide, expressing hope that the President will express a strategy, saying that we will pray for them and seek to put words into action.
