House Appropriations Committee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen of New Jersey asks Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly at a fiscal 2018 budget hearing about resiliency, the recent release of ransomeware, which he calls the most massive cyber attack the world has ever seen, asking him about how resilient his agency is from cyber attacks. Kelly says the very short answer is yes, that he spent the morning of the attack the department was among the very first to detect it, having responsibility for protecting government domains, that the virus had spread on every continent by hundreds and hundreds of thousands, but on account of interagency work by its cyber mission, the number of systems affected were minuscule because the department was successful in defending the nation from the biggest cyber onslaught in history.
