GOLAN HEIGHTS - AUGUST 21, 2024: Hezbollah launched a rocket attack on the settlement of Katzrin in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Wednesday (August 21), injuring one person and damaging several homes. According to the Israeli military, some 50 rockets were fired from Lebanese territory into the Golan Heights. The missiles were partially intercepted by air defense systems, while others fell in the Katzrin area. The Israeli emergency service, Magen David Adom, reported that one person was lightly injured in the attack. Israeli media also confirmed that several homes in Katzrin were damaged in the rocket attacks. In a written statement, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was aimed at an Israeli military base in the Golan Heights. The attack was described as retaliation for Israeli air strikes the previous night in the Bekaa region of eastern Lebanon. Israeli air strikes in the Bekaa reportedly caused one death and 19 injuries. Fears of a full-fledged war between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah group have grown amid an exchange of cross-border attacks, especially after the July 30 assassination of senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut. The escalation comes against the backdrop of a deadly Israeli onslaught on Gaza which has killed over 40,170 people since last October following an attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.
