Heavy rainstorms continue to flood Greece

PAROS, GREECE - APR. 01, 2025: Heavy rains swept across Greece, triggering widespread damage in multiple regions. Greek State Television ERT reported that the downpours, which hit the Cyclades Islands hard yesterday, continued today, affecting Central Macedonia, Halkidiki, Crete Island, Chios Island, and the Dodecanese Islands. Flooded roads left dozens of vehicles stranded, with extensive damage reported to homes and infrastructure in these areas. In the Dodecanese Islands, the Civil Protection Unit issued a warning via cell phone alerts, urging residents to stay cautious until Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, in the Halkidiki Peninsula, hazelnut-sized hail joined the heavy rain, disrupting daily life and worsening conditions. Severe weather hit Greece on Monday, with heavy rain on Cyclades islands, public broadcaster ERT reported. In the island of Poros, where roads turned into rivers, local authorities banned travel on the road network, and the rain caused landslides. The flood also swept away some cars to the area of Naoussa Port. Similarly, in Mykonos, the authorities banned the movement of vehicles while local authorities received calls for water removal from estates. The island of Syros experienced heavy hail that followed the rain without major damage.(Footage by Costas Baltas/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
