WS group of budding actresses wearing evening gowns stands on outdoor steps with an emcee as the Western Association of Motion Picture Advertisers presents its 1931 "baby stars," beauties whom it thinks will have promising film careers; the starlets turn and applaud as famed operatic contralto (and more mature woman) Madame Ernestine Schumann-Heink enters to introduce them; she greets the young women; a sign with one of their names sits on the ground at left; emcee exits stage left, as the remaining group looks on solemnly, then after a beat they exhibit excitement and banter / MS emcee and Madame with a few of the starlets; he leaves, they watch, women turn and applaud Madame, who cracks a quip / the girls each introduce themselves to Madame, shake hands with her, and exit: Rochelle Hudson; Joan Marsh; Karen Morley; Barbara Weeks; Sidney Fox; Marion Marsh; Anita Louise; Frances Dade; Joan Blondell; Constance Cummings; Marion Schilling; Judith Wood; Madame stands alone, then with the emcee on the steps as a man walks by with a cue card
