Moment Central Park Heron Swallows Rat Whole
A great blue heron was spotted in New York's Central Park slowly devouring a large city rat as fascinated onlookers watched. Footage recorded by Mike Messer shows the bird eating the rat, a process that took several minutes. "This video shows the long process of the heron swallowing the rat whole, as a snake would. I could not believe that the bird had the capacity to swallow something that huge," Messer told Storyful. The great blue heron is the largest heron in the US, https://www.audubon.org/field-guide/bird/great-blue-heron according to the Audobon Society. The bird has a "variable diet," the society https://www.audubon.org/field-guide/bird/great-blue-heron said, making it possible to live further north than other herons.
