Merkel Takes Questions At Bundestag Following Reversal Of Easter Shutdown

BERLIN, GERMANY - MARCH 24: (EDITOR´S NOTE: BROLL) German Chancellor Angela Merkel takes questions from parliamentarians at the Bundestag after she announced a reversal of a hard lockdown for Easter on March 24, 2021 in Berlin, Germany. After lengthy negotiations, Merkel and leaders of Germany's 16 states announced measures yesterday very early morning that include Germany's strongest lockdown to date for the Easter period from April 1 through April 5 when Germans typically go on vacation, though today she announced a reversal of the decision. Germany is well into a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic that has been spurred on by the B117 variant. Authorities are desperate to rein in current infection rates that are growing exponentially. Merkel stated that the current wave with the B117 variant is a new pandemic and that authorities must respond beyond measures used to cope with the coronavirus pandemic so far.
