General Election 2024: Alastair Campbell and Craig Oliver interview

General Election 2024: Alastair Campbell and Craig Oliver interview; Part 3 of 3 ENGLAND: London: GIR / ENGLAND (via Internet/2-WAY link): INT Sir Craig Oliver (Downing Street Director of Communications, 2011-2016) interview SOT - (On how important TV debate next week will be) Ultimately not very much / one thing I do think the campaign will have an effect on is turnout; I think one of the depressing things about this is it's all a bit stolid and maybe turnout is going to be quite low after this campaign / and that's a worry for democracy as well Alastair Campbell (Tony Blair's Director of Communications, 1997-2000) interview SOT - (On advice he'd hypothetically give to Rishi Sunak) I think be a bit more real / the way he talks to people doesn't feel real / the only time recently I felt he came across as being vaguely authentic is when he did the apology for the Infected Blood scandal, there was something there I hadn't really seen before / all these endless videos, endless enthusiasm and 'the plan' and 'bold action', you get the feeling of somebody who's been fed a load of lines, he's rehearsed them in the mirror and after a while, people just turn off Oliver interview SOT - (On advice he'd give to Keir Starmer) Two things; one, the fact you are worried about dropping the ming vase shouldn't stop you trying to sound energised, optimistic, enthusiastic / quite a lot of the interviews he's done sound very dull, careful, boring / the second thing I'd say is you are actually going to have to govern; a lot of what the Labour Party is doing during this campaign is saying they are not going to do certain things, and slowly but surely it feels like a party that's painting itself into a corner, and I would worry about being the Labour Party having ruled so much out, having so little room for manoeuvre in the future / also, what is going on with your Deputy, Angela Rayner, at the moment / are you going to be able to show you are a united front or is this the...
