General Election 2015: Nick Clegg speech in Portsmouth

General Election 2015: Nick Clegg speech in Portsmouth; Nick Clegg (Liberal Democrat Leader) speech SOT - What a warm-up act. Gerald is a dear friend. He always has the interest of Portsmouth at heart. His commitment to investment in the surface fleet is just an example of his service to the city. When he was running the local council he lived within his means but did not cut service / One of the reasons he will become MP is this, look at the Tory alternative. They want to impose an ideological approach to cuts. Cameron says their approach is reasonable. They says it's the equivalent to a household saving £1 in every £100. What they've been saying about their plans are a dangerous deception. They have a plan to make £60bn in cuts. It's so extreme because they won't ask their friends in big business to pay an extra penny. They've singled out the working age poor to bear the brunt. £60bn is what we spend on policing and defence in total. Don't believe it when the Conservatives say they have the history of the navy at heart. Don't believe a word the Conservative candidate is telling you / I have another thing to say. David Cameron failed to rule out this morning entering into an alliance with UKIP. Don't treat people as stupid. You know you won't win a majority. I have ruled out an alliance with UKIP, why won't you do the same? My message is this, if you want to stop the country being dragged to the left or right then vote for your local Lib Dem candidate. They are the only ones who can act as a barrier to Salmond and Farage / Those are the reasons this man will be MP for this constituency. The people of Britain want us to remain rooted in the stable centre ground. They want a party to stand up for the values of decency. There is nothing fair about burdening our children with more debt or imposing ideological cuts. Thank you very much, go out and campaign for Gerald
