General Election 2010: Brown Speech at Royal Institute; ENGLAND: London: Albemarle Street: INTHigh angle shot woman introduces Gordon Brown and he enters auditoriumGordon Brown (Prime Minister) speech SOT:- Good to see you, hello, hello [standing ovation]- Real privilege it is to be speaking in the Royal Institution, 211 years of educating people- I was once a university lecturer, know that universities stand for objectivity, impartiality, pursuit of knowledge - everything you have to leave behind when go into politics ... - I'm also aware a lot of people think politics is too small to deal with the big issues- People think we've lost the art of communication, but not the gift of speech- I want to talk about the big issues that concern me- What happened during the global financial crisis- Things we need to do now as a national and world community- I was in Washington a year or two ago- Demonstrators were outside the World Bank building- One banner said World Wide Campaign Against Globalisation- it got me thinking about what are the issues we've got to deal with- Pace and speed of global change has made millions of people more prosperous- has given them more opportunities than they could have dreamed ot- Has increased life expectancy, made it possible for people to benefit from technological change, has cut in half the price of computers and other goods like that- Has cut in half the price of clothes because of production in China and Asia
