Full view of Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam. Erasmusbrug (English: "Erasmus Bridge") is a combined cable-stayed and bascule bridge. Construction began in 1986 and was completed in 1996. It crosses the Nieuwe Maas river in the center of Rotterdam, connecting the north and south parts of this city, second largest in the Netherlands.
Behind the bridge looms De Rotterdam, a building on the Wilhelminapier, designed by the Office for Metropolitan Architecture, a Dutch architectural firm based in Rotterdam, founded in 1975 by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and Greek architect Elia Zenghelis, along with Madelon Vriesendorp and Zoe Zenghelis.
