Freshman Oklahoma Congresswoman Kendra Horn says on the 20th day of a partial government shutdown in debate on a transportation appropriations bill that the Monroney Center is critical to infrastructure by supporting 45,000 air traffic control centers worldwide, over 1000 employees were on furlough and 600 work without pay, all its air traffic control and aviation students were sent home though the center was the only one of its kind in the United States but its doors were shuttered and training and ceased, the longer the shutdown continues the longer it would take for training to resume and to make matters worse the Monroney Center had not yet recovered from a budget sequester yet the FAA is at a 30 year air traffic controller staffing low.
