The Joshua tree (Yucca brevifola) is a large, flowering plant that is confined almost entirely to the Mojave Desert in the southwestern United States. These large specimens in the northeastern San Bernardino Mountains of southern California are nearly as large and robust as any that have been identified, at about 15 m (49 feet). They are growing amongst scattered single-leaf pinyon pine (Pinus monophylla) and sagebrush (Artemisia sp.).
