Senator Moody calls on lawmakers not to be distracted from combating fentanyl, biggest killer over other drugs in opioid epidemic
Florida Senator Ashley Moody says in debate on a joint resolution by Virginia Senator Tim Kaine that would end a national emergency declaration with respect to fentanyl imported from Canada issued by President Trump that fentanyl killed more Americans than any other drug by far and became the leading cause of death for working-age and fighting-age men and women, as well as causing the deaths of infants and children exposed to the substance at an exponentially increasing rate, with Florida being no stranger to the opioid epidemic after suffering from a pill mill crisis that required tightened laws and ensured people had access to help, followed by a surge of fentanyl pouring into the country that now claimed 70,000 lives each year as the deadliest drug the nation ever encountered, which made it vital to maintain focus on this threat.
