House defeats rule 196-223 to allow amendment forcing Epstein investigative files release
Florida Congressman Greg Stuebe as Speaker Pro Tempore announces that a procedural rule providing for later floor action on cryptocurrency legislation and fiscal year 2026 Department of Defense appropriations was not adopted before Majority Leader Steve Scalise seeks to reconsider the vote, a roll call on that question forced by Rules Committee Ranking Member Jim McGovern. Thirteen Republicans voted against the rule to provide an opportunity for an amendment that would have forced the Justice Department to release investigative files related to late financier and child abductor Jeffrey Epstein.
