BRAZIL: Sewage-filled lagoons of Rio threaten crocodiles
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - JUNE 08: A few thousand caimans (alligator-like creatures) live in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, slithering through sewage-like lagoons.
Anadolu Agency Video News (AAVN) camera on Wednesday videoed fetid lagoons and some of these creatures lurking on banks of lagoons near the beaches of Recreio dos Bandeirantes acarepaguá and Barra da Tijuca in western Rio.
The hardy caimans became an increasingly common sight in the urban heart of western Rio, drawn in part by the scraps tossed to them by humans.
But these dangerous reptiles which increasingly rely on handouts from humans, die due to sewage contamination in the lagoons in western Rio far from the main postcards of the city, the scenario where the broad-snouted caiman, among other species, such as capybaras, inhabits is of total degradation.
