Ferris Wheel Spins Baseball Fans, Offers Target For Batters

Fans got to cheer on the Rakuten Eagles professional baseball team in a new way on May 3, 2016 from the gondolas of a spinning Ferris wheel erected just behind the left field bleachers of the team’s home stadium in Sendai, Japan. Built at a cost of about 200 million yen ($1.8 million), the 36-meter-tall Ferris wheel offers a bird’s-eye view of Rakuten Kobo Stadium Miyagi as well as a view of the Sendai cityscape. Batters have been offered a reward of 1 million yen in Rakuten shopping points for reaching the Ferris wheel with a home run shot. It would have to be a lofty drive, according to a Rakuten team representative, since the Ferris wheel is about 170 meters from home plate.
