- Ladies and gentlemen, you've been invited today to view a certain number of 'Authors as Artists', I am sure this invitation has come to you as a joyful surprise, you are accustomed to hearing painters and sculptors described as artists, also pianists, fiddlers, actors and acrobats / Noel Coward, while may assume, has painted as rest from the serious criticism of life to which he has devoted so many of his years and his great gifts, I who can neither paint nor write [laughter], I didn't mean that, I meant I that can neither paint nor draw, chiefly envy the authors who can illustrate their own books /
