Tatakoto, a remote atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago of French Polynesia, is surrounded by a lagoon rich in marine life. Like many regions worldwide, its corals are subjected to thermal stress caused by elevated temperatures. Yet, they have developed an exceptional heat resistance, a rare trait that could help restore degraded reefs. CRIOBE (French National Center for Scientific Research - CNRS) studies this unique resilience in collaboration with the 1 Ocean missions, supported by UNESCO. Following these missions, corals from Tatakoto were transplanted to the island of Moorea to assess their ability to thrive beyond their native atoll. (Footage by TAM PROD/Getty Images)
