Egypt's former capital Tell el-Amarna still holds light to its ancient history

Tell el-Amarna, site of the ruins and tombs of the city of Akhetaton, is located 45 km away of Egypt's Minya city. Tell el-Amarna is an extensive archaeological site located between the east bank of the Nile River and the high plateau of the Eastern Desert in the south of Minya city. The Amarna site represents the remains of the capital city established in 1346 BC and built by the Pharaoh Akhenaten. This ancient city is also known as the place where Nefertiti lived and Tutankhamun spent his childhood.
