Rupert Murdoch is interviewed on whether he has any interest in ITV franchises and his stations being regulated by the ITC.

Edinburgh TV festival: Rupert Murdoch interview; Part 5 of 5 SCOTLAND: Edinburgh: INT Rupert Murdoch (Chief Executive, News Edinburgh International) interview SOT Q: SO YOU SEE A GREAT FUTURE FOR SKY / HOW LONG IS IT GOING TO BE BEFORE SKY IS A GREAT ORGANISATION IN YOUR BOOK - It's a great organisation now, but before it's economically viable, I think that's three or four years away Q: AND YOU'LL WAIT - Of course / we've done it before, we did it with The Times, we did it with The Australian, we did it with certain magazines, we did it with FBC / who knows, we believe if we deliver the programs people like and with sufficient quality, that it will be a great success Q: YOU'RE NOT INTERESTED IN CHANNEL 5 OR ANY OF THE ITV FRANCHISES - No not at all / I've been in that IBA system and I find it very stultifying / we like the freedom, we like to open it up and see more people have more television stations Q: BUT YOU WILL BE REGULATED UNDER THE ITC - Oh sure, absolutely, but it's a question of extent / things are changing, we'll see what happens with the Broadcasting Bill that comes / but I think we're going to see much more freedom and freedom of access to people to come in / of course there'll be very strict rules about program content, and I don't altogether disagree with that / I don't know how they're going to enforce and how practical it is, but that's another issue.
