NEW YORK, NEW YORK – NOVEMBER 14: During a Q-and-A, Jessica Katz, Chief Housing Officer, Mayor’s Office, Mayor Adams and Christine Quinn, the former Speaker of the New York City Council and current President and CEO of WIN (Women in Need) NYC talk about funding and budgetary concerns for the pilot housing program as New York City Mayor Eric Adams announces plans to roll out a package of housing reforms to make it easier for homeless and low-income families to get permanent housing on November 14, 2022 in New York City. The mayor’s plan aims to help individuals exit the shelter system — or avoid it entirely — and move more quickly into permanent affordable housing. Adams highlighted that the plan includes helping move into higher-income neighborhoods that have long been out of reach for lower income families. The reforms include improvements to the City Family Homelessness and Eviction Prevention Supplement (CityFHEPS) housing voucher program, making it quicker and easier to find New Yorkers eligible for the program and making the voucher more flexible and easier to use. The pilot program is called “Street to Housing” – it will place the unsheltered into supportive housing.
