SPEECH - Protests Calling For Resignation Of L.A. City Council Members Over Racist Remarks Continue
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 19: (SPEECH) (Part 3 of 3) Dr. Melina Abdullah, a professor at California State University, Los Angeles, speaks at a rally across the street from a protest encampment near L.A. City Councilmember Kevin de León's home in the wake of a leaked audio recording on October 19, 2022 in Los Angeles, California. The rally focused on topics such as state-sanctioned violence and calling for de León's resignation. The encampment is located in front of a vacant house whose owner allowed them to be there. Former L.A. City Council President Nury Martinez resigned in the aftermath of the release of a profanity-laced recording which revealed racist comments amid a discussion of city redistricting with de León, Gil Cedillo and Los Angeles County Federation of Labor President Ron Herrera, who has also resigned. De León has stated that he will not resign. (Footage by Kaelin Mendez/Getty Images)
