Strength Endurance On Display at Mochi Lifting event
Dozens of worshipers vied for the honor of winning a competition to lift giant rice cakes at a temple on February 23, 2016 in Kyoto, Japan, only to realize the event was anything but a piece of cake.
Thirty-six men and 16 women took turns at Daigoji temple in the city's Fushimi Ward to heft a red and white kagami mochi (mirror-shaped rice cakes) weighing 150 kilograms for men and 90 kg for women.
The winner in each category of the Mochiage Chikara Hono competition was the person who lifted the heavy load for the longest time.
