Protesters in Netherlands mark 77th anniversary of Nakba
AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - MAY 17, 2025: Dozens of demonstrators marched in Dam Square in the Netherlands's capital city, Amsterdam, on Saturday, May 17, to mark the 77th anniversary of the Nakba, or “Great Catastrophe,” when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced in 1948.
Waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans, protesters gathered to show solidarity with Palestinians and called for peace and justice.
Protesters carried signs reading “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” “End the occupation,” “Stop the genocide,” “Boycott Israel,” and “Shame on you.”
During the demonstration, slogans such as “Free Palestine,” “Shame on you, Netherlands, your hands are bloody,” and “Israel bombs, the Netherlands pays” were chanted.
After the speeches, the protesters marched through the city center—where many tourist attractions are located—passing through Rembrandt and Waterloo squares before returning to Dam Square.
