Director of Police Intelligence, Captain Thomas J. Lyons opens a copy of "The Rat" (underground newspaper) to a page showing a detailed map of the downtown Chicago area. Lyons: "This actual shows how well organized the group was. And if you'll notice here is a detailed map of Chicago's loop. Now this publication is "The Rat". This is one of the underground publications. This was a special they put out for the convention. This originated in New York City. They have detailed maps indicating the location of the hotels, the city, the federal buildings, the banking institutions. They have lists of the various places which should be demonstrated against. If you'll note here the Conrad Hilton Hotel is boxed in black to draw immediate attention to that location. The next page of "The Rat" publication covers the entire Chicago region, indicates the routes to be used by delegates amphitheater area, indicates all of the major arterial highways in and out of the city, rapid transit lines, railroads, and so forth. The following page is a detailed map of the amphitheater area with all of the streets in that location and the primary attention being brought to Halsted Street between 39th and 47th street."
