Police statement as teens are jailed for hacking man to death
Detective chief inspector Marc Bowes gives a statement outside Leeds Crown Court as two teenagers were sentenced for hacking a factory supervisor to death with a samurai sword.
High on drugs, the killers slashed and chopped at their victim more than 100 times with a samurai sword as they tried to decapitate him.
Robert Wilson, 53, was investigating youths hanging around outside the Thornton and Ross pharmaceutical plant in Huddersfield when he was attacked by Kiyran Earnshaw, 18, and 16-year-old Luke Gaukroger, who passed the 20in sword between them.
Mr Justice Lavender sentenced Earnshaw, of Field Lane, Batley, and Gaukroger, of Arthur Street, Huddersfield, to life with minimum terms of 22 years and 16 years, eight months respectively.
