BOLOGNA, ITALY - DEC. 12, 2025: Demonstrators protested the Israeli basketball team Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Italian city of Bologna ahead of a EuroLeague match against Virtus Bologna, prompting heightened security measures across the city.Before the game, protesters gathered at Parker Lennon Garden near the San Donato area and marched toward the arena carrying Palestinian flags. Demonstrators voiced opposition to the match being played and to the participation of Israeli teams in international sporting events.During the march, protesters set off fireworks, lit flares, and chanted slogans such as “Free Gaza” and “Freedom for Palestine.” Some fireworks exploded close to police lines as security forces maintained tight control of the area and closed roads leading to the venue.The demonstration ended peacefully at Piazza 8 Agosto, with no major incidents reported.
