- yes, Liverpool is a black spot, let's never forget it and let's never forget the history of why it got that way/ how many jobs went west as the docks were incessantly closed/ how many jobs went west as it was, 'out brothers,' and they came out once again from factory after factory/ let's not forget what caused the unemployment
- we're not union bashers, I've never bashed a union in my life, but in the winter of discontent, how many of the old, the sick, the unemployed, the disabled were bashed by unions?
- I have no enthusiasm for heavy handed regulation of the internal affairs of unions, but they are powerful and privileged bodies and there is real concern about the way they conduct their affairs/ it's in the spirit of friendship, not of confrontation, that I say to the, I am ever ready to meet you to offer my help in hastening the reforms which you feel may be necessary
