BOGOTA, COLOMBIA - APRIL 2: Colombia raised the alert level for the deadly Nevado del Ruiz volcano after an increase in the seismic activity recently. On March 31, 8,800 seismic events were registered, according to the country's geology body "Servicio Geológico Colombiano" (SGC). The activity of the volcano is at "orange level", which means "probable eruption in days or weeks." Nevado del Ruiz is an active volcano that has been erupting for approximately 10 years, but all the eruptions so far have been minor.Ìý However, on March 29 the highest number of daily earthquakes was recorded since its seismic activity began to be monitored in 1985. There was also a report of a thermal anomaly in the crater area, according to the SGC. The volcano exploded violently on November 13, 1985, killing around 25,000 people.
