Larry Mulloy of NASA tells why Challenger was launched in freezing weather

Close up of Larry Mulloy, sitting at a table and wearing a dark suit and red tie. There is a microphone pinned to his tie. He looks out around the room as he makes these comments: "It is not an accurate statement to say that Thiokol recommended against launching. There was an engineering discussion in which the engineering element of Thiokol pointed out that we would be operating 51-L outside of our experience base, not outside of our certification or qualification base. That discussion led to a conclusion on the part of the program manager at Thiokol, which was concurred in by NASA, that there was no direct correlation between joint performance and temperature on our previous flights."
