North Korea's Top Official Leaves For WWII Events In China

PYONGYANG, NORTH KOREA - SEP. 2: A close aide of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Wednesday left for Beijing to attend events to mark the 70th anniversary of Japan's defeat in World War II. Choe Ryong Hae's trip marks the first official dispatch of a high-ranking official from North Korea to China since May 2013. Choe, one of the most important aides of Kim, visited Beijing then as Kim's special envoy and met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea also served as a special envoy of Kim on a visit to Moscow last November and held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who will attend a huge military parade on Thursday in the heart of Beijing to mark the war's end along with about 30 foreign leaders.
