Chile’s President reshuffles cabinet for a second time in less than a year

SANTIAGO, CHILE - MARCH 10: Chilean President Gabriel Boric replaced five of 24 ministers on Friday (Mar. 10) two days after the rejection of a proposed tax overhaul initiative intended to provide funding for the majority of government-led programs. "The purpose of these changes is to improve our capacity to respond and manage the emergencies that our country and citizens face today," Boric said during the ceremony at La Moneda presidential palace in Santiago. Alberto van Klaveren who served as the director of the academic unit for international legal and economic relations of the Institute of International Studies at the University of Chile, was appointed the new foreign minister of Chile, replacing Antonia Urrejola. Jessica López Saffie, former executive president of the National Association of Health Services Companies and the director of the Board of Directors at Itaú CorpBanca, was appointed Public Works Minister, succeeding Juan Carlos Garcia. Jaime de Aguirre, former director of Television Nacional de Chile, Chilevision and Canal 13, became Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage. Jaime Pizarro Herrera, retired football player and former Sub-secretary of the National Institute of Sports was appointed Minister of Sport replacing Alexandra Benado. Aisén Etcheverry Escudero, former director of Chile's National Research and Development Agency and the National Council on Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation for Development, will succeed Silvia Diaz as Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation.
