2-shot: Huw Thomas and John Diefenbaker (Canadian Prime Minister) interview SOF
Huw asks "Are you disappointed that most of the Foreign Countries have refused to accept rocket "bases?"
Diefenbaker replies "That is not a matter of disappointment for Canadians. far as we are concerned, naturally, rocket bases are of little consequence in Canada. The decision whether they should he accented should not be a matter for compulsion but a decision on the part of each individual State."
Huw Thomas asks: "Supposing you had been Head of the European Government and not Canada, what would yous views have been?"
CU Diefenbaker saying "I would not want to enter into a hypothetical discussion on a subject such as that - I have troubles enough of my own"
Huw asks "You don't share the view of some who think this communique is full of platitudes?"
Diefenbaker replies "I must say every sentence will not be perfect, every decision will not be worded in those words all would desire to have. Making due allowance for the fact that it's very lengthy I believe it represents an outstanding advancement along the way to Peace and in particular it has removed and resolved any of those difficulties which have separated that fifteen. Nations have gone about that purpose and determination that was the real aim of the Conference, and I think has been attained.
