Congressman marks anniversary Chuck Yeager broke sound barrier
California Congressman Steve Knight notes the reestablishment of the NASA caucus two weeks since the 70th anniversary of supersonic flight by Captain Chuck Yeager, who quickly accelerated through the invisible barrier known as the speed of sound, the first man to achieve Mach 1 in October 1947. Knight says Yeager retired in 1975 as a Brigadier General, having achieved that day what many men did not think possible, that in representing Edwards Air Force Base he is proud of the flying expertise of pilots of the F-35 to the F-22 as they create history.
