California Congressman Mike Thompson says during House Ways and Means Committee consideration of a resolution of inquiry that would request the Trump Administration to provide information to Congress about Social Security Administration operations and Department of Government Efficiency access to the Social Security Administration that for 89 years Social Security ensured seniors could retire with dignity and those who were disabled received needed support, but the current Administration put Social Security on the chopping block and wanted to privatize it, while Elon Musk called it the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time and suggested it would be the primary target of his cutting efforts, pointing to the announcement of closures of 47 field offices and six Regional Offices which contradicted Republican claims about improving customer service. The measure was later ordered adversely reported to the House in a partyline 24-18 vote.
