Senate hearing witness says students are represented in controversial books
Brandeis University Student Cameron Samuels says at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on banning books in schools that despite standing up for their freedoms, many age-appropriate books, particularly those addressing LGBTQ themes, racial diversity, and religion, are removed from the school district's libraries, that student groups formed to distribute challenged books district-wide and organized community support at board meetings, that libraries should offer diverse materials to foster learning and rejects censorship that restricts students' opportunities to explore their identities and humanity.
