MEDELLIN, COLOMBIA - RECENT, NOVEMBER 2022: Bird-watchers have recently come together in Medellin, Colombia, to enjoy an annual festival that celebrates the arrival of migratory birds in the country. Footage shows a group of bird-watchers in Cerro El Volador, which is one of the places with the greatest biodiversity of birds in the world. It is the largest natural park located in the city of Medellin and a popular place for biking, hiking and bird watching. More than 500 species of birds come to the valley during this time of the year, Carlos Ivan Restrepo, the Director of the Birds Festival in Medellin says. Among them are bar-crested antshrike “thamnophilus multistriatus”, and lineated woodpecker “dryocopus lineatus”, which is one of the largest woodpeckers and is very attractive to bird-watchers. Yellow-bellied seedeater “sporophila nigricollis” is often seen on spikes eating seeds. Black-chested jay “cyanocorax affinis” is a brightly colored bird, which is often found in small family groups below 2400m. Summer tanager “piranga rubra” is also a boreal migratory bird, which arrives in Colombia in October and stays approximately until March. Nearly 2,000 types of birds can be observed across the country, Restrepo says. "Medellin is not only beautiful and is called the city of eternal spring for its flowers, but also for its birds. We invite everyone to come here annually to this festival that occurs on the occasion of the arrival of boreal migratory birds to Colombia and our Aburrá Valley." The festival brings together many visitors, not only local, but also national and international to Colombia, which, Restrepo stresses, "is the country with the most bird species in the world."
