Barristers strike in London following High Court challenge over custody time
Barristers and spokespeople for the Criminal Bar Association hold strike action outside the Royal Courts of Justice in London as part of an ongoing pay dispute with the Government.
Speakers include: Kirsty Brimelow KC, chairman of the Criminal Bar Association. Barrister Jeffrey Israel and Barrister Anoushka Twining. It comes as High Court judges have said delays to criminal trials affected by the ongoing barristers strike may not be a good enough reason to keep defendants in custody on remand if the dispute continues beyond the end of November. In a ruling on Wednesday, Dame Victoria Sharp and Mr Justice Chamberlain ruled that the judges in those cases fell into legal error when refusing to keep defendants behind bars earlier this month.
