Food Bank Prepares For Increased Demand With Possible Government Shutdown On The Horizon

MIAMI, FLORIDA - SEPTEMBER 29: Barbara Neri (L) and Chef Sheila Johnson cook for those in need at the LifeNet4Families Community Kitchen on September 29, 2023 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As the United States government tries to hammer out a deal to keep itself funded, food pantries and community kitchens nationwide prepare for increased demand due to possible loss of funding for food assistance, including SNAP. Dr. Melanie Geddes, the President and Chief Executive Officer of LifeNet4Families, said a prolonged government shutdown would strain resources since many families already come to them for help. LifeNet4Families helps those in need with a Community Kitchen serving 400-600 meals a day, an Emergency Food Pantry helping up to 4,000 low-income families monthly; and Disaster Assistance.
