Author and illustrator Raymond Briggs dies aged 88: Julia Donaldson interview; SCOTLAND: Edinburgh: EXT Julia Donaldson (Author, 'The Gruffalo') interview SOT - I was really sad when I heard Raymond died...such a big part of our children and grandchildren's lives / if it wasn't' for Briggs I wouldn't have been here...I was so inspired by his grumpy Father Christmas...such hilarious...I loved his books / really Raymond was such a one off...I don't think anyone could copy him...the bogeyman and the slime...the grumpy father Christmas of course the combination of the pictures and the words...so many pictures....just fantastic / I think I only met him once and it was at 10 Downing Street...he was wearing a snowman tie...of course one of his best books was Ethyl and Ernest a story about his parents' courtship / I think every children's writer likes to appeal to the parents as well as the children...I think it's the sly humor / The snowman is a classic film...at heart it's very true to the book / it's very sad that Raymond Briggs has died but I'm sure that his legacy will live on through his books for generations
