Australia's Victoria reimposes Covid-19 restrictions after eight new cases

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - DECEMBER 31: Australia's second-most populous state Victoria reimposed COVID-19 restrictions as eight new cases recorded in capital Melbourne after 61 days. Speaking at a press conference about new cases in the state, Acting Victoria Premier Jacinta Allan said that eight new cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours originated in New South Wales (NSW) state. She noted that the number of people allowed in a home will be reduced from 30 to 15. The obligation to wear masks in closed areas has been reimposed. Victoria also closes its border to all of New South Wales. Allan added that people planning a New Year's Eve party at their homes will need to reduce the number of invitees. It is believed that the Covid-19 cases recorded in Melbourne when someone who had returned from NSW dined at a restaurant. There have been no new Covid-19 cases for 61 days in Australia's hardest-hit state Victoria, according to the latest figures from US-based Johns Hopkins University. There has been 28.405 confirmed cases and 909 death toll in Australia so far. (Footage by Recep Sakar/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
