Anti-communist/former Communist Louis Budenz takes oath as he begins testimony before the Tydings Committee; SOT he testifies: "from 1935 to 1945, I was a member of the Communist Party of the United States. For a few months I was secretly a member until Earl Browder returned from Moscow when it was decided that I should be (ultimately) a member. I became labor editor of the Daily Worker, editor of the communist paper, the Midwest Daily Record, and then managing editor of the Daily Worker which is the official daily organ of the Communist Party of the United States" / he names Alexander Trachtenburg, Robert William Weiner, Joseph Brodsky, Alexander Bittelman as officers (Owen Lattimore sits behind him at far right) / Note: exact day not known
