NYC: Supreme Court Public Charge Rule - Press Conference
NEW YORK, NY JANUARY 28, 2020: Ann E. Dibble - Executive Director Community Legal Advocates (CLA). Location: NY Immigration Coalition (NYIC) headquarters. NYC elected officials, immigration advocates, and legal experts to discuss the 'public charge' rule which the US Supreme Court allowed to take effect. The Supreme Court ruled to approve the Trump administrations public charge rule for new immigrants. The Trump administration can now move forward with plans to deny green cards to immigrants who make even occasional use of public benefits like Medicaid, food stamps and housing vouchers. An immigrant who uses certain kinds of benefits from the government might be considered a public charge by the government. His can affect certain immigrants immigration status.
