GUNMA, JAPAN - APRIL 09: Anadolu video captured on Sunday (April 9) manufacturing process of wooden "Kokeshi" dolls of Japan, which have been cute toys for Japanese children for generations. Kokeshi dolls from Northeast Japan are handmade and generally produced with oval heads, cylindrical bodies, armless and legless for 200 years. There are 11 types of Kokeshi dolls, each of which can carry its unique characteristics into modern times. Among them, Nanbu Kokeshi, who can play his head, Yajiro Kokeshi with a painted hat, and Tsuchiyu Kokeshi with a horizontal stripe pattern stand out. Bringing traditional design and modern products together, Sosaku Kokeshi appeals to the needs of children of this time with working on the famous characters. 70 % of Sosaku Kokeshi production is made in Gunma province, northwest of the capital Tokyo. Usaburo Kokeshi firm, located in the Shinto region of Gunma province, has the most famous workshop in the region. The Head of Usaburo, Okamoto Yoshihiro, said that they are not worried about the possibility that modern designed dolls might harm the tradition. “Because we consider the expectations of future generations and we are always changing ourselves about which style of Kokeshi we will produce,” he noted. Festivals are held at different times of the year, in which Kokeshi costumes are worn for the traditional dolls.(Footage by Ahmet Furkan Mercan/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
