IDLIB, SYRIA - MAY 7: An internally displaced 11-year-old Syrian girl is helping educate younger children whose schools have been closed and are unable to follow distance learning at the tent camp in Syria's Idlib province on May 7, 2020. Yasemin Bekkur began teaching the children after schools were closed due to coronavirus contagion fears and don't have access to a mobile phone in the camp. “Students cannot go to school due to coronavirus. They learn through distance education but some families don't have smart phones. They don't have money to buy one. So I teach them here,” she said. Fifth-grade student Bekkur said she wanted to teach the impoverished children who are unable to participate in distance learning because their parents can't afford a smart phone. Bekkur helped teach students in her Syrian village before have to move to the camp in Idlib with her mother. "I hope to be an engineer, doctor and teacher. To build homes, treat patients and teach the students how to read and write," she said. Yasemin's mother, Fatma Bekkur said she is proud of her daughter. "My daughter started teaching them so that children could continue their education," she said. Idlib is currently home to four million civilians, including hundreds of thousands displaced in recent years by regime forces throughout the war-weary country.
